Gressoney-Saint-Jean is a small municipality which rises 1385 metres above sea level just in the heart of Lys Valley. Its lovely city centre is dominated by the impressive profile of Mount Rosa, whose high peak hosts the imposing Lys glacier.

The modern ski-lift facilities of the nearby Monterosa Ski District contributed to make Gressoney-Saint-Jean a popular tourist destination both in summer and in winter. The old town of Gressoney-Saint-Jean develops around the shores of a small Alpine lake which marks the centre of the village. Gressoney has been a renowned tourist destination for well-to-dos and nobles since the beginning of the twentieth century. Queen Margherita of Savoy commissioned the building of a Castle which is still regarded to be one of the city's most representative landmarks. Savoy Castle is crowned by a lush botanical garden and its upper floors offer breathtaking views over the impressive peaks of Mount Rosa.
