Grado, a thriving municipality of the province of Gorizia, is a renowned tourist centre and an important spa town. It is built on a huge lagoon which includes more than 30 islands, some of which are regularly inhabited.

This thriving spa town hosts a remarkably wide array of hotels which are open all year round. The local guest houses are situated just in the heart of the city centre, while the city's intimate inns and bed and breakfasts concentrate in the main islands of the archipelago. The islands are connected to the mainland by an efficient network of fast ferry boats.

Grado gathers plenty of wonderful attractions and highlights which every year attract thousands of tourists from all over the world. The city's most representative sacred building is the Basilica of St. Eufemia, which was built over the ruins of a pre-existing VI-century church. Its major remains are hosted inside the current structure, while the fragments of beautiful mosaics and walls are cherished a short distance from the church. St. Eufemia is flanked by an adjoining Baptistry.
Another church worthy of mention is St. Maria delle Grazie, which stands a short distance from St. Eufemia.
Grado's Lagoon and its enchanting varied landscapes attract large numbers of visitors. Those interested in experiencing genuine traditions and local usages and customs will have the opportunity to make a pleasant boat trip across the lagoon onboard the typical so-called “batela”, or to visit the so-called  “casoni”, that is to say the dwellings which were once inhabited by local fishermen. The lagoon provides the ideal habitat for rare species of plants and birds, thus attracting the lovers of nature and birdwatching.
One of Grado's most appreciated events is the so-called Perdòn de Barbana, a religious celebration which takes place during the first July week. It is a fascinating boat parade during which the statue of Madonna degli Angeli is taken from the Basilica of St. Eufemia to the island of Barbana. Another important event is “Grado Giallo”, which includes a series of conferences and meetings that are held by the most acclaimed authors of crime fiction.
