Gradisca d’Isonzo is a thriving resort which develops along the banks of the river Isonzo, twelve kilometres far from Gorizia. Its famous historical village is surrounded by impressive city walls, which were erected by the Venetians in 1479. Gradisca d’Isonzo gathers plenty of outstanding historical monuments. Walking along the city's impressive walls, it is possible to reach the six towers which surround the ancient village. Not to be missed are the Castle of Gradisca d’Isonzo and its imposing fortifications, which were erected by the Venetians in the late fifteenth century and were subsequently enlarged and remodelled during the Austrian period.
