Foligno, whose municipal territory develops across the surrounding mountain territories, is situated just in the heart of the lush Umbra Valley, which separates Perugia from Spoleto. Not to be missed are the Church of St. Nicolò, which was erected in the Gothic style and subsequently remodelled, whose interior cherishes two works by Niccolò Alunno, and the Romanesque Church of St. Maria Infraportas, which still retains its original aspect. 6 kilometres far from the church is the beautiful XI-century Abbey of Sassovivo, whose lovely Romanesque cloister was designed by Pietro de Maria.
Those flocking to Foligno in June or September will have the possibility to attend the popular Giostra della Quintana, which is the amazing recollection of a traditional XVII-century chivalric competition. while tasting typical dishes and traditional local staples.
