Fiorano Modenese, a small municipality of the province of Modena, nestles on the slopes of the first Apennine peaks and of the ravines of the surrounding area. The building, that has Greek cross plan, was concluded in 1907, and is characterized by its sumptuous Baroque facade that is flanked by two high bell towers.
3 kilometres far from Fiorano is the splendid Castle of Spezzano. This medieval fortress, which was originally built to suit defensive purposes, was turned into a sumptuous stately home in 1529, and was then complemented by a Renaissance courtyard embellished by numerous porches and by two wonderful frescoed halls, the so-called Sala delle Vedute and Galleria delle Battaglie.  
The castle is now the seat of the interesting Ceramics Museum, a kind of a creative lab gathering more than 10 halls that illustrate the main techniques and productive processes employed from the Neolithic Age up to the present day.
The local hills, that rise in the heart of the Natural Reserve of Salse di Nirano, give visitors the possibility to admire a very peculiar geological phenomenon, that of mud volcanoes, that is to say bizzare formations created by geo-excreted liquids and gases.
