Visiting Fasano

The small municipality of Fasano, which is situated in the province of Brindisi, develops halfway between the High Salentine Peninsula and Bari. It is idyllically set just in the heart of a lush plain, and is totally surrounded by sweet rolling hills which slope down to the Adriatic Sea. Fasano's numerous hamlets, villages and residential areas make it the second most densely populated municipality after Brindisi.

Those interested in spending pleasant holidays here based on the utmost relax will have the opportunity to stay at the comfortable hotels which are situated a short distance from the famous Bathing Establishment of Torre Canne, which is one of the most modern thermal complexes of Southern Italy. Fasano's charming guest houses, which are situated few metres far from the Adriatic Coast, give guests the possibility to take advantage of well-groomed beaches, large fitness areas and modern sports facilities. The local bed and breakfasts are the ideal accommodation facilities for those interested in spending pleasant holidays here based on the utmost tranquillity while discovering genuine traditions and ancient usages and customs.

Walking down the narrow streets of the old town, visitors will reach the sumptuous Church of St. John the Baptist, which is dedicated to the city's patron saint. It boasts a splendid late Renaissance facade, which was largely built of local tuff, and is flanked by a high square-shaped bell tower, which was realized according to the canons of Baroque architecture. The sweet surrounding hills host the peculiar Fasano's Minaret, which perfectly reproduces the typical Islamic architecture and is embellished by a high tower and a delightful balcony.
The ancient city walls which surrounded Fasano in the seventeenth century comprised eleven impressive towers; today, the only example which can still be observed is the so-called Torrione delle Fogge. It once overlooked the valley of the so-called fogge (open-air wells), which constituted the major water supply source of the territory.
Savelletri, a cosy hamlet of Fasano, hosts one of the most important archaeological sites of Apuli Egnazia National Archaeological Site, which still cherishes the ruins of the ancient city.
Those interested in spending a funny day here will have the possibility to visit the popular Fasanolandia Zoo, which is the largest fauna park in Italy.
