Fanano, a small municipality of the province of Modena, is situated just in the heart of Frignano Regional Park, and is dominated by the impressive profile of Mount Cimone. Fanano's old town is punctuated with outstanding civic and religious monuments. One of the city's most representative buildings is the  Duomo of St. Silvestro, which was founded by the Benedictine Friar St. Anselmo in the VIII century. The parish church, which is one of the most beautiful religious complexes in the area of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, cherishes precious fourteenth-century frescoes from Siena School and plenty of further prestigious paintings.
The city's most important civic building is Palazzo Lardi, that was built in 1340 to host the infantry regiment, as evidenced by the loopholes it has both next to the main entrance gate and along the courtyard's walls. In the XVI century, the facade was embellished by a splendid portal, that was realized according to the architectural canons of the Tuscan style. Palazzo Lardi is flanked by the Clock Tower, that was erected in 1609 to host the clock mechanism and bell. The influence of the Tuscan style, which derives from the fact Fanano had plenty of commercial exchanges with Tuscany in the sixteenth century, is even visible in the seventeenth-century Palazzo Coppi. The facade of the palace is largely made of local stone, and its limestone brackets surmount the cornices of the two orders of windows.
