Darfo Boario Terme is a small municipality situated in the province of Brescia. Located north of Lake Iseo, halfway between Val Camonica and Scalve Valley, it is idyllically set just in the heart of the confluence of the rivers Dezzo and Oglio. The name of the municipality derives from the combination of Darfo, which is the municipal capital, and Boario Terme, which is the most important hamlet and a renowned holiday destination and spa town.

The castles of Montecchio and Gorzone, two of the most impressive fortifications of Val Camonica, date back to the Middle Ages. The castle of Gorzone still retains its original medieval structure dating back to the XIII - XIV century, even though some parts were added during the following centuries, when the castle was turned into an elegant aristocratic residence. Its interior cherishes richly decorated rooms featuring utmost elegance. The castle of Montecchio was situated in a privileged strategic position overlooking Scalve Valley and was erected before 997; only some ruins have survived.
Among the most representative sacred buildings in Darfo Boario Terme are the church of St. Faustino and Giovita, which was erected in the IX century, and the small church of the Monastery of Sacro Cuore, which was realized in the first half of the eighteenth century.
Boario Terme, a renowned spa town gathering many hotels, clubs and state-of-the-art tourist services, hosts a remarkably wide array of contemporary architectures. Its spa establishment is situated just in the heart of a large and well-kept park and was built in the Art-nouveau style at the beginning of the twentieth century.
