The polygonal monumental walls of the ancient city of Norba, which were erected in the VI century B.C., can still be observed. The highest point of the city's hill is topped by the Aragonese Castle, which was built in 1054. It is characterized by a Norman-style trapezoidal structure, and its edges, which face the four cardinal points, are occupied by impressive towers. Today, it is the seat of the municipal picture gallery, which cherishes precious artworks, such as the famous pictorial series Jerusalem Delivered by Paolo Finoglio.
The city's most representative sacred buildings are the XI-century Cathedral of Conversano, which is a typical example of the Apulian-Romanesque style and has a nave and two aisles, and the Monastery of St. Benedetto, which boasts a huge dome and an imposing Baroque bell tower which is fully covered by dichromatic majolica.
The karst Murge hills are dotted with small ponds which are created by the stagnation of rain water, the so-called Lakes of Conversano. In 1985, they were declared a natural reserve for the observation of reptiles and amphibians, and are a great natural heritage for the whole surrounding area.
