Clusone is a small municipality situated in the province of Bergamo, halfway between Seriana Valley and the basin of the river Oglio. One of the city's most representative buildings is the Basilica of St. Maria Assunta, which gazes across the countryside from on high and is flanked by an impressive bell tower which commands the whole valley. The architectural patterns, majestic outer staircase, sacred furnishings and inner sculptures of the church stand out as the most representative examples of the ability of the local artists who worked here at the end of the XVII century. In front of the basilica is the Oratory of Disciplini, a sumptuous medieval building which is embellished by the precious frescoes of the outer facade and the inner walls which were realized by the local artist Giacomo Borlone. Walking down the streets of the city centre, visitors will have the opportunity to admire the richly frescoed Municipal Palace, the Clock Tower and Palazzo Fogaccia. Among the most appreciated sacred buildings are the small church of St. Anna, which was built at the end of 1500, the church of Heaven and the church of St. Defendente, which both date back to 1400. Elegant palaces cherish precious collections of art, sumptuous decorations and precious period furniture; not to be missed is the tour of Palazzo Marinoni Barca, which houses the exhibition spaces of MAT (Museum Art Time).
