Civita Castellana rises on the top of an impressive tufa rock spur belonging to Mounts Cimini, that develop in the province of Viterbo. The city's impressive Renaissance fortress rises on the top of the local hill and commands the underlying landscapes. Its majestic plan is complemented by imposing merlons and towers, while its central part is surmounted by a huge octagonal keep. The fortress has recently been totally renovated, and it is now home to the archaeological museum of Agro Falisco, that contains plenty of important finds and remains dating back to prehistory, the Etruscan period and the Roman age.
