Chiavari, a lovely town of the province of Genoa, is situated just in the heart of the splendid Tigullio Gulf. Surrounded by enchanting naturalistic beauties and a lush vegetation, it overlooks the crystal-clear sea of the Eastern Ligurian Riviera. This ancient coastal centre develops along the right banks of the stream Entella, and extends 43 kilometres far from the regional capital. Its municipal territory also includes the lovely resorts of Campodonico, Sanguineto and Sant’Andrea di Rovereto.

Hotels in Chiavari, that distribute along the sea front and rise few metres far from the local beaches, are the ideal accommodation facilities for families with children. The local guest houses, that are idyllically set just in the heart of the city centre, give tourists the possibility to take advantage of wide air-conditioned bedrooms, large saunas and wide solariums equipped with beach mattresses and umbrellas. Chiavari's farm houses, that are hosted inside ancient manor houses, give gourmets the possibility to taste excellent traditional specialities from Liguria.

The Cathedral of Nostra Signora dell’Orto, that dominates the homonymous square, is the city's most important sacred building, and one of the most beautiful constructions of the whole territory of Tigullio. Erected in 1613, it boasts a sumptuous Neoclassical facade surmounted by a beautiful marble pronaos dating back to the XX century. Its interior cherishes numerous artworks of great value, such as the famous high altar (1627), prestigious wood statues by the sculptor Anton Maria Maragliano and beautiful seventeenth-century choir stalls.
The old town is scattered with sumptuous palaces dating back to different periods. Not to be missed is the medieval Palazzo di Giustizia, that was built in 1886 over the remains of the fifteenth-century Cittadella fortress and is embellished by interesting Tuscan Gothic architectural patterns. Another site worthy of mention is the seventeenth-century Palazzo Rocca and its wonderful public park, that were commissioned by Marchesi Costaguta. The building is now the venue for important exhibitions and displays, and is home to the Archaeological Museum of Tigullio's Prehistory and Protohistory, the Historical Museum of Risorgimento and the Civic Gallery.
The gentle hill that once dominated the ancient fishing village is now topped by the impressive remains of the imposing Chiavari Castle, that was commissioned by the Republic of Genoa in the XII century. The castle, that was almost totally destroyed in the XVI century, still retains a high tower, the fortified parade ground and two important water tanks.
The lovers of nature and geology won't miss the opportunity to visit Chiavari's pinewood forest and holm-oak grove, an important site of community importance (SCI - SIC) that extends north-west of the municipal territory.
