Cento, a small municipality of the province of Ferrara, is situated just in the heart of the fertile plain that develops along the left banks of the river Reno. This enchanting medieval village extends across the central-western part of the province, exactly on the boundary with Bologna and Modena.

The city's most representative sacred buildings are the Church of the Rosary, that is embellished by a sober facade (1645), and the Collegiate Basilica of St. Biagio, the city's patron saint, that dates back to the XI century.
Art lovers won't miss the opportunity to visit the important "Il Guercino" Civic Picture Gallery, that was established in 1839 inside the sumptuous Palazzo del Monte di Pietà. It is home to the largest collection of artworks by Guercino and his pupils in the world.
During the five Sundays that precede Lent, Cento arranges the famous Carnival. This ancient folk event, that has been twinned with Rio de Janeiro Carnival since 1993, is one of the funniest and most spectacular carnivals in Europe.
