Visiting Castelbellino

The picturesque village of Castelbellino is situated just in the heart of the hinterland of Ancona. Surrounded by impressive XVI-century walls and dominated by an imposing fortress, its cosy old town overlooks the valley of the river Esino, and is surrounded by sweet rolling hills that slope down to the sea.

Hotels in Castelbellino's old town are small and welcoming accommodation facilities which give guests the possibility to spend unforgettable holidays based on the utmost relax. The town's panoramic guest houses give guests the possibility to take advantage of modern comforts and high-quality services and facilities, while the local residences are the ideal accommodation facilities for those interested in spending longer holidays here. Castelbellino's farm houses give gourmets the possibility to taste genuine traditional specialities from the surrounding area.

Castelbellino is the smallest municipality in the province of  Ancona. Those who reach it leaving from the nearby city of Jesi will have the opportunity to admire its alluring old town, which overlooks the glorious hills and plains of the surrounding area and the ancient vines which produce the famous Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi white wine.
The city boasts ancient origins, as evidenced by the precious archaeological finds which have recently been unearthed in the surrounding area. In the early Middle Ages, the ancient village was turned into an impressive fortress by the noble Attoni family from Jesi, while the part of the city which extended outside the city walls started developing around the seventeenth century.
Just outside the city's fortifications is Villa Coppetti, which was built according to the canons of the Neoclassical architectural style at the end of the eigtheenth century. Surrounded by a large public park, it gathers wide inner areas which are now the seat of the Civic Museum and the venue for interesting cultural activities and events.
The city's most representative sacred building is the Church of St. Maria, which was erected in the sixteenth century and is still regarded to be one of the most important historic-artistic masterpieces of the city.
Not to be missed is the tour of the caves, which have recently been turned into wine cellars, and now store precious bottles of the excellent Verdicchio white wine which is produced in the nearby countryside.
