Castel Maggiore, a small municipality of the province of Bologna, is idyllically set just in the heart of the fertile Petroniana Plain, and develops along the banks of the channel Navile. Tourists won't miss the opportunity to visit Villa Zarri, that boasts a sumptuous eighteenth-century facade featuring a central tympan and long side galleries, the seventeenth-century Villa Isabella, whose ground floor halls and loggia cherish precious Baroque frescoes, and Villa Belvedere, that is encircled by an enchanting park gathering lush oak trees, lime trees and elms, and is surrounded by two sumptuous manor houses and two imposing towers.
Apart from visiting the flood bed of the river Reno, tourists will have the possibility to admire the important historic-naturalistic remains of the ancient Sostegno di Castagnolo Maggiore, which was built in 1497, as well as to walk down the ancient so-called  "restare" footpaths that flank the channel Navile.
