Castegnato is situated 8 kilometres far from Brescia, just upon the border with the glorious countryside of Franciacorta. Its name derives from the ancient chestnut wood which stood a short distance from the city centre before the beginning of the extensive deforestation works which were carried out here from the X up to the XVII century.

Its proximity with Brescia and Franciacorta makes Castegnato a popular holiday destination for those interested in discovering this charming province. Castegnato's most representative monument is the church of St. John the Baptist, whose original core dates back to ‘400. The remains of the ancient building are now part of the adjoining bell tower and farmhouse, while the new church was erected in 1682. Apart from outstanding artworks, its interior cherishes the relics of St. Vitale, which, during the celebrations which takes place on the second Sunday of May, are brought into procession across the streets of the city centre.
Halfway between Castegnato and Ospedaletto is a fascinating farmhouse which is hosted inside an elegant eighteenth-century villa and has recenly been renovated by the acclaimed architect Gianfranco Cominelli. The large garden which surrounds the villa is a wide public park gathering plenty of targeted spaces for both adults and children.
