The Abbey of Montecassino rises on the top of the panoramic hill that dominates the city, and is easily accessible by car. Founded in the VI century by St. Benedetto, it was one of the most important cultural and political centres in Europe for the whole Middle Ages. Its most representative rooms and halls are: the Basilica, Bramante's cloister, the so-called cloister of Benefattori and the millenary Library.
