Carrodano, a small municipality of the province of La Spezia, develops just in the heart of the Upper Valley of the River Vara, and nestles on the slopes of the Ligurian Apennines that rise a short distance from the enchanting Cinque Terre. This splendid XVI-century sacred building attracts large numbers of pilgrims, who especially flock here during the enchanting blossoming of olive trees, that takes place every year in September 7.
Carrodano Superiore hosts the precious remains of the Hospitale of San Nicolao, that was founded to accommodate pilgrims who flocked here following the ancient Via Romea. Carrodano Inferiore gathers the ruins of the Hospitale of Santo Spirito.
The lovers of nature and excursions won't miss the opportunity to explore the enchanting footpaths and trails of the lush Bracco Pass, as well as to visit the nearby hamlet of Mattarana and its famous Lizze Wood, where rare specimen of instrusions were discovered some years ago.
