Cantello, a small municipality of the province of Varese, shares its borders with the Swiss city of Gaggiolo. It is especially known for its production of the famous Argenteuil purple asparagus variety.

Cantello's most beautiful church is the Church of St. Maria di Campagna that, together with its bell tower, is regarded to be the city's major monument. Its gabled facade is embellished by splendid suspended arches, while the interior is decorated with precious XV- and XVI-century frescoes and polychrome wood statues. The adjoining high bell tower, that was erected in the XI century, is embellished by four splendid niches crowned by suspended arches, single-lancet windows and loopholes.
Other churches worthy of mention are the Church of St. Pietro and Paolo, that contains a precious Ara Pacis bearing an inscription dedicated to Jupiter, the Church of St. Giorgio di Ligurno, the Church of St. Bernardino a Gaggiolo and the Oratory of St. Lorenzo. Cantello's underground is rich in water, what contributed to the realization of beautiful fountains and washing troughs that distribute across the whole territory.
Tourists won't miss the possibility to undertake pleasant excursions across the top of the local hills to admire the typical so-called roccoli, special arboreal architectures that were built for hunting purposes.
