Visiting Campogalliano

Campogalliano, a small municipality of the province of Modena, develops along the course of the river Secchia, that is the most important right tributary of the river Po. Situated just in the heart of one of the major road junctions in Europe, it connects the important Autostrada del Sole with Brennero Pass. Campogalliano is also known as the “City of Scales”, because it is home to one of the major European industries of this sector and also hosts an important musuem dedicated to this instrument, that was inaugurated in 1989.

Hotels in Campogalliano are the ideal accommodation facilities for both business travellers and families who are interested in spending pleasant holidays here based on the utmost peace and tranquillity. The local guest houses give tourists the possibility to visit the city's major beauties, while the charming farm houses of the surrounding area give them the possibility to undertake pleasant excursions across the Naturalistic Reserve of the river Secchia.

The old town is dominated by the Parish Church of St. Orsola, which was built around the half of the XV century over the remains of an ancient chapel. The building, that was totally remodelled in 1830, boasts a sumptuous facade embellished by a beautiful portal. It is surmounted by a tympan and six pilasters (three for each side), and provided with two minor entrances.
The ancient village revolves around the fascinating Piazza Castello and the Oratory of St. Rocco, which was built around the end of the XVII century. The square delimitates the medieval core of the city, which was once surrounded by a deep moat and connected to the "Castrum” through a long bridge.
The lovers of nature, culture and archaeology won't miss the opportunity to visit the famous Le Montagnole Park, that was probably the seat of the castle of Campogalliano and is now scattered with precious ceramic remains.
The ideal destinations for the lovers of sport and nature are Lakes Curiel and the Natural Reserve of the River Secchia.
