Visiting Camerano

Camerano, a tiny resort of the hinterland of Ancona, nestles on the slopes of San Giovanni Hill and develops across the surrounding territory. Its proximity with the coast and the outstanding naturalistic beauties of the Conero Peninsula makes Camerano a privileged holiday destination for large numbers of international tourists.

Surrounded by the ancient vines which produce the famous Rosso Conero red wine, the cosy resort of Camerano gathers outstanding naturalistic beauties, precious historical finds and appreciated artistic sites. The city's ancient village is scattered with comfortable hotels and guest houses, which give guests the possibility to take advantage of modern services and facilities and well-kept spaces. The local farm houses are idyllically set just in the heart of lush green areas, and give guests the possibility to explore fascinating naturalistic itineraries and taste excellent local staples and genuine traditional specialities.

The original village, which was built on the top of San Giovanni Hill, was founded by the Piceni between the XI and the III century B.C. Camerano's Municipal Antiquarium, which is hosted inside the halls of the Town Hall, cherishes precious finds which bear witness to the ancient origins of the city. The Town Hall is situated just in the heart of the old town, and it is hosted inside a former eighteenth-century convent. It cherishes precious archaeological finds, a prestigious art collections gathering outstanding paintings by Carlo Maratti, an illustrious citizen from Camerano, and a curious exhibition of period accordions. Looking through its large windows, tourists will have the possibility to enjoy breathtaking views over the Conero Peninsula and the impressive profiles of Mounts Sibillini.
Camerano's old town gathers interesting sacred buildings, such as the church of St. Francesco, which was realized around 1230 and is now the venue for interesting art exhibitions and cultural events. The ancient parish church of Immacolata Concezione, which dates back to the V-VI century, was repeatedly remodelled between the seventeenth and the nineteenth century.
Tourists won't miss the opportunity to visit Bosco Mancinforte, the public park which surrounds the homonymous palace and is embellished by fascinating footpaths and 150 ancient specimen of ornamental plants. At the end of the main path is the wonderful belvedere, which gives tourists the possibility to enjoy sweeping views over Ancona and Boranico Valley.
Not to be missed is the tour of the popular Camerano Sotterranea (Underground Camerano), a thick network of fascinating caves and tunnels.
Those who flock here during the first September week will have the possibility to take part in the famous “Festival of Rosso Conero”, which gives them the opportunity to enjoy food and wine tasting, genuine traditions and ancient usages and customs.
