Cadeo, a small municipality of the province of Piacenza, is idyllically set just in the heart of the enchanting Val d’Arda, and develops across the lush territory that is cut by the ancient Via Aemilia and by the stream Chiavenna. One of Cadeo's major attractions is the Parish Church of St. Pietro, that is characterized by a splendid sandstone Romanesque portal featuring a beautiful lunette that was realized between 1165 and 1170.  
An imposing keep, that is situated next to the church and is currently used as a bell tower, is the only architectural element left of the ancient Cadeo Castle, that was erected over the remains of a pre-existing fortress and then repeatedly destroyed over the course of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries.
The Sanctuary of Beata Vergine del Carmine, whose construction began around the half of the XVIII century, is situated along the stretch of Via Aemilia that crosses the small hamlet of Roveleto. This sumptuous Baroque building is characterized by an elegant facade decorated with pilasters and cornices, and is covered by a huge dome crowned by a beautiful lantern.
Cadeo's region is crossed by one of the most important pilgrimage itineraries of the Middle Ages, the popular Via Francigena, a 1.600-km-long route that once connected Canterbury with Rome.
Walking down the footpaths and trails of this route, the lovers of trekking and open-air activities will have the opportunity to admire sacred shrines, votive deposits and crossmarks, as well as to discover the rich artistic, cultural and naturalistic heritage of the surrounding area.
