Bressanone (German: Brixen) is one of the largest municipalities in the province of  Bolzano and the most important resort of the Isarco Valley. Situated at an altitude of 560 metres above sea level on the way to the Brenner Pass, it is surrounded by Cima Cane, Mount Pascolo and Plose Massif, (its highest point being Mount Telegrafo), which all rise at an average altitude of over 2000 metres above sea level.

Bressanone's city centre boasts outstanding monuments which date back to the Middle Ages, when the city experienced its golden age and achieved utmost cultural splendour.
Not to be missed are the Duomo and its adjoining cloister, which were erected in the XII century and subsequently remodelled in the Baroque style, the nearby XI-century church of St. Michele Arcangelo and its fifteenth-century bell tower, the so-called White Tower.
The so-called Giardino dei Signori (Garden of the Lords), which in spring and summer is carpeted with plenty of colourful and scented flowers, is flanked by the Bishop's Palace, the current seat of the Diocesan Museum. Last stop is the Municipal Palace, whose interior is embellished by sumptuous twentieth-century decorations and frescos.
The nearby village of Pinzago hosts the fascinating Church of St. Cirillo, which is said to have been founded in 1283. Situated on the top of San Cirillo hill, this building is the final stage of the Footpath of the European Saints, a rough itinerary which crosses the wood and is made up of eight stopovers.
