Bentivoglio, a small municipality of the province of Bologna, is idyllically set just in the heart of the fertile Felsinea Plain, and develops along the course of the channel Navile, that originates from the river Reno. The city, which was originally called Ponte Poledrano, extends across the northern side of the province. Its current name derives from the homonymous powerful family from Bologna.

The local farm houses give guests the possibility to go for pleasant walks across the enchanting landscapes of the surrounding area, as well as to taste exquisite food specialities and gastro delights from Emilia.

The city's most relevant building is"Domus Jocunditatis" Castle, that was commissioned by Giovanni II Bentivoglio at the beginning of the XVI century to be used as a game preserve.
The castle, that has a quadrangular plan, was erected next to an imposing tower dating back to 1390. It is embellished by typical Renaissance-style architectural elements, and its interior hosts plenty of sumptuous decorated halls and rooms, such as the wonderful Sala del Pane (Bread Hall), whose name derives from the fact it gathers precious frescoes depicting all the different phases of bread-making.
The channel Navile is flanked by plenty of sumptuous palaces and manor houses, such as the famous Palazzo Rosso, that was built between 1891 and 1893 according to the traditional architectural canons of the prestigious  Art-nouveau style. Its interior hosts plenty of splendid halls, such as the so-called Sala dello Zodiaco (Zodiac Hall).
The lush English-style park that flanks the channel Navile is dominated by the nineteenth-century Villa Smeraldi. The huge complex consists of a stable, a barn and a ice-house, what bears witness to the fact it was once used both as the manor house and the farmer's residence. Since 1973, the inner spaces of the villa have hosted a nationally renowned ethnographic gallery, the Peasant Society Museum.
