Visiting Arcevia

Arcevia is a small municipality of the hinterland of the Marches. It rises on the top of Mount Cischiano, which is one of the last Apennine reliefs of the region. Its hilly territory is subdivided into plenty of picturesque hamlets, and is dominated by 9 impressive medieval castles. Imposing fortresses and fascinating naturalistic areas attract large numbers of visitors and tourists.

The charming guest houses of the old town give guests the possibility to enjoy breathtaking views over the western peaks of the Umbro-Marchigiano Apennines and the eastern Adriatic Coast, which can be reached by car in just twenty minutes. Arcevia is scattered with comfortable hotels, which are situated a short distance from the most important historic-artistic beauties of the city. The city's intimate bed and breakfasts give guests the possibility to spend pleasant weekends based on the utmost rest and relax. The lovers of nature and active holidays will have the possibility to stay at Arcevia's charming farm houses, which make the ideal base for undertaking pleasant walks, cycling excursions and horse rides.

An appreciated holiday destination, Arcevia gives tourists the possibility to explore various itineraries and to take part in interesting initiatives and events. During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, its strategic position made it the seat of fierce fighting among several peoples, who left indelible signs of their passage.
The imposing XIII - XVI-century city walls and the entrance gates to the ancient village cherish the little town which developed in the early Middle Ages, which is scattered with outstanding medieval, Renaissance and Baroque monuments and buildings. Corso Mazzini, the city's major arterial route, is dominated by the seventeenth-century collegiate church of St. Medardo, which contains precious artworks of great value. The nearby Piazza Garibaldi is commanded by the XIII-century Municipal Palace, and by further sumptuous manor houses which were built during the following centuries.
Enchanting footpaths and itineraries give tourists the possibility to reach the important monuments which are situated outside the city walls, such as the Sanctuary of Madonna delle Grazie, which is situated on the top of Monte S.Angelo and is a traditional tourist mecca for both pilgrims, trekking lovers and cultural tourists. Those who plan to spend their holidays in Arcevia won't miss the opportunity to explore the fascinating itineraries which connect the city's major castles, such as the Itinerary of Bel Vedere and the lush meadows of Monte della Guardia.
Local inns and farm houses give guests the possibility to taste the excellent Verdicchio DOC white wine and genuine salami and cold pork meat. In spring and summer, gourmets will have the possibility to take part in a dazzling array of food and wine fairs and folk festivals.
