Appignano is a small municipality of the Marches which is situated few kilometres far from Macerata and a short distance from both the sea and the high mountains of the hinterland. It is known all over Italy for its thriving manufacturing sector and the production of furniture.

Appignano's most representative monument is the Municipal Palace, which is one of the city's oldest buildings. Not to be missed is the fascinating Neoclassical Villa Tusculano, which was erected during the Napoleonic Era.
Another famous point of interest is the church of St. Maria Addolorata, which attracts large numbers of pilgrims and religious tourists. Its construction was financed by the donations which were offered by a group of believers after the apparition of the so-called Madonna of Tears.
Last but not least, tourists should visit the monastery of Forano, which has repeatedly been remodelled and restored and now boasts the current sumptuous aspect.
