Ameglia, a small municipality of the province of La Spezia, is idyllically set just in the heart of the valley of the river Magra, and develops halfway between the Ligurian Sea and the first slopes of  Mount Caprione. The old town is dominated by the beautiful Parish Church of St. Vincenzo, that was erected over the remains of a pre-existing building dating back to the XV century. Its facade is embellished by a splendid marble rose window and a sculptured bas relief dating back to 1400. Its interior cherishes precious artworks of great value and a prestigious XVI-century marble tryptych.
The city's most representative military buildings are the impressive remains of the ancient Castle of Ameglia and those of the adjoining tower. This imposing fortress with rectangualr plan was erected in 1174. It is surrounded by a triple curtain of trapezoidal walls.
Not to be missed is the picturesque village of Montemarcello, that is situated 5 kilometres far from the municipal capital. In its old town, that is crossed by charming narrow streets and dominated by a splendid square, lush landscapes, lovely houses and splendid arches merge in pleasant harmony. The cosy hamlet of Bocca di Magra hosts the impressive remains of an ancient Roman villa, that was erected in the period comprised between the I century B.C. and the IV century A.D. It still retains several halls and rooms, as well as the ancient thermal complex.
The lovers of nature and open-air activities will have the possibility to reach the compelling beach of Punta Corvo, that is idyllically set just in the heart of the most beautiful coastal cove of the surrounding territory.
