The small municipality of Albavilla is idyllically set on the cusp of Lake Como's two arms, just in the heart of the lush territory of Piano d’Erba, which is crossed by numerous waterways, such as the enchanting Lake Alserio and Lake Pusiano. Albavilla has been an appreciated tourist resort since the ancient times: the Roman Villa Albensis, which is situated just in the heart of the city centre, hosted illustrious personalities, such as Marcus Tullius Cicero, Lucius Verginius Rufus, Pliny the Elder and Pliny the Younger.

The lovers of nature, art and history will have the opportunity to explore Albavilla's fantastic cultural and naturalistic itineraries while taking advantage of modern services and facilities. Both hotels and guest houses are situated along the major avenues of the old town, while charming farmhouses and mountain shelters are distributed along the impressive naturalistic paths which develop on the slopes of the so-called Alpe del Viceré. Not to be missed are the intimate bed and breakfasts which punctuate the city centre of Albavilla itself and its lovely hamlets.

Heading towards the so-called Alpe del Viceré from Albavilla or the nearby municipality of Erba, guests will have the opportunity to reach the so-called Buco del Piombo natural cave.  A large entrance space, which is approached through a steep rock staircase, provides access to an extraordinary chequerboard of narrow tunnels, outstanding natural sculptures and impressive stalactites and stalagmites. The local Museum of Speleology and expert guides give tourists, students and families who flock to the cave plenty of useful information. The precious prehistoric remains which were discovered inside the cave are now hosted inside Erba's Civic Museum.
The charming footpaths leading to the top of Alpe del Vicerè are scattered with well-equipped picnic areas provided with barbecue facilities and comfortable wooden tables. Other fascinating footpaths dedicated to the lovers of trekking and mountain bike develop along the ridge of the so-called Triangolo Lariano.
Albavilla also gathers plenty of historic-artistic places of interest, such as the numerous villas which were built between the nineteenth and the twentieth century. Among these, not to be missed are Villa Giamminola and its wide park, which is now the seat of the municipality, Villa Giannetta, an outstanding Alpine-style wooden building, and Villa Vercelli-Beaux, which was built over the ruins of the medieval Castle of Carciano in the homonymous municipality. Part of the remains were also used to build the church of St. Dionigi. A short distance from it is the small church of St. Cosma and Damiano, which was built in the local stone towards the end of the fourteenth century  and still retains its original bell tower and some frescos dating back to the following century.
