Albareto, a lovely mountain resort of the province of Parma, develops in the heart of the valley of the stream Gotra, and is surrounded by a wide wooded territory that is crossed by the river Taro. Both the city itself and its hamlets extend across the south-western part of the province, exactly on the border with the Tuscan province of Massa and the Ligurian province of La Spezia.

Hotels in Albareto, that belong to every price category, distribute both in the old town and around the city's major tourist attractions. Albareto's welcoming guest houses are situated in the city's major hamlets, while the local pinewood forests and woods are peppered with charming farm houses, that give guests the possibility to taste traditional local specialities from the surrounding area, such as Parma ham, Parmigiano Reggiano and Borgotaro porcino.

The city's most beautiful religious building is the Church of St.  Maria Assunta, that was erected over the remains of a pre-existing chapel dating back to 1100 in the second half of the XV century. Its interior boasts a single nave with five altars, a prestigious tabernacle containing the wooden statue of the Virgin Assunta and interesting walnut choir stalls dating back to 1878. Not to be missed is the nineteenth-century Baroque Church of St. Anna, that is situated in the nearby hamlet of Montegroppo.
The city's most peculiar landmark is the so-called Cacchioli area. Built in the XV-XVI centuries, it comprises a group of abandoned houses featuring a peculiar architectural structure that is rich in architraves, monograms and crosses.
The lovers of food and wine events won't miss the opportunity to take part in the National Festival of Porcino, which is held here in September and has attracted over 13.000 people in the last few years.
