Visiting Aidone

Aidone is a splendid city of the province of Enna. Idyllically set just in the heart of one of Sicily's most important archaeological areas, it is situated a short distance from the important remains of the ancient city of Morgantina.

Hotels in Aidone give guests the possibility to take advantage of modern comforts and excellent services and facilities. The local guest houses welcome tourists with the utmost courtesy and kindness, and make them feel at home. Aidone's farm houses give gourmets the possibility to taste delicious food and wine specialities from the surrounding area. The city's tourist offer is complemented by modern residences and vacation homes.

Aidone rises on the top of an enchanting hill surrounded by the impressive profiles of Mounts Erei. Its old town still retains the original medieval layout, since it distributes around the hill that was once topped by the city's castle. The city centre cherishes precious finds and remains and precious churches of great value. Not to be missed are the church of St. Maria della Cava, the local Chiesa Madre, the church of St. Antonio Abate and the church of St. Vincenzo Ferreri, as well as the impressive remains of the ancient city's castle. Tourists won't miss the opportunity to visit the city's Regional Archaeological Museum, that is hosted inside the former church of St.Francesco. It cherishes precious archaeological remains belonging to the ancient Morgantina, a famous city of Magna Graecia that is especially known for the Venus statue that was found here.
Morgantina's archaeological site is situated 4 kilometres far from the old town. It cherishes impressive remains, such as those belonging to a theatre dating back to the end of the IV century B.C. The surrounding area also gathers further important sites and attractions of great value, such as the castle of Pietratagliata and the spectacular Romana Villa of Piazza Armerina, that was even declared UNESCO World Heritage Site.
