Visiting Agnano Terme

Agnano Terme is a small tourist resort situated north-west of Naples. Idyllically set just in the heart of the Phlegraean Fields, it is backed by the impressive profile of Posillipo's Hill. Like most phlegraean fields, Agnano Terme develops around a volcano which has been extinct for over 4.000 years. Agnano's underground is rich in sulphur waters which are widely employed to carry out targeted thermal treatments and therapies.

Agnano's valley is Naples' green lung and one of the most ancient holiday destinations in its province. Tourists will have the opportunity to stay at elegant hotels provided with beauty centre, comfortable guesthouses, cheap inns and charming bed and breakfasts situated a short distance from the major spa establishments. Those looking for utmost relax and wellbeing will have the opportunity to stay at the intimate holiday farms which are situated just in the heart of the lush landscapes which surround the volcanic valley.

Agnano's most important tourist attractions are its spas, which have been known since the I century AD, when Emperor Trajan commissioned the building of the first establishment. 70 springs of hot water containing sodium bromide, chloride and iodide, impressive fumaroles and the so-called “Stufe di San Germano” natural caves, which produce hot jets and are therefore used as natural saunas, bear witness to the incredible naturalistic heritage of the city. Not to be missed is the huge thermal complex, one of the largest in Europe, which was built in 1910. The main building is surrounded by a large park gathering natural caves, fascinating footpaths, impressive fountains and further imposing buildings which have recently been restored.
Apart from visiting the local Spas, those flocking to Agnano will have the possibility to make fascinating excursions and perform funny activities, such as explore the Natural Reserve Cratere degli Astroni, which is crossed by charming footpaths and peppered with targeted birdwatching facilities, or visit the famous racetrack which every year hosts Lotteria di Agnano Grand Prix. The city also gathers trendy pubs and clubs, while a short distance from it is the harbour which connects Agnano with the nearby islands of  Capri and Ischia. Vesuvio, Ercolano and Pompei are situated only few kilometres far from the city centre, while Naples is easily accessible by public means of transport and underground (line no. 2).
