Visiting Acquasparta
Acquasparta, a small municipality of the province of Terni, rises on the top of a gentle hill which dominates the valley of the river Naia. Its name, which derives from the Latin words“Ad aquas partas”, refers to the particular position of the town, which develops halfway between the river Amerino and the river Furapane. Famous all over the world for the thermal spring of St. Francis, it is the ideal holiday destination for those interested in experiencing a closer touch with nature, and makes the ideal base for discovering the nearby beautiful cities of Umbria.
Acquasparta gathers a wide range of comfortable hotels which give guests the possibility to spend pleasant holidays here based on the utmost relax. Those interested in saving money will have the opportunity to stay at one of the numerous cheap guest houses of the city. Those looking for excellent services and facilities and tasty traditional specialities won't miss the possibility to stay at one of the splendid farm houses or bed and breakfasts of the surrounding area.
Acquasparta's old town is dominated by the majestic Renaissance Palazzo Cesi, which was built in the XVI century as the residence of Duke Federico Cesi and once hosted the popular Accademia dei Lincei. Its interior cherishes precious Roman inscriptions which were unearthed in the archaeological site of Carsulae.
Not to be missed are the Roman-Gothic church of St. Francis, the seventeenth-century church of Madonna del Giglio and the church of Santissimo Sacramento, the latter contining a well-preserved mosaic which dates back to the Roman Age.
Acquasparta also hosts plenty of funny shows and events, such as the Festival of Renaissance, an amazing historical recollection which is characterized by absorbing competitions, funny music and traditional dances.
