Guidebooks Rome

Rome, the capital of Italy and Latium, is one of the most appreciated cities in the world. The historic and artistic heritage cherished by its old town makes the so-called Eternal City the traditional gathering place of both cultural and religious tourists from all over the world. Outstanding works of art, sumptuous churches, impressive remains dating back to the ancient Roman Empire, contemporary art museums, popular streets and squares, the Vatican City, which is situated just in the heart of Rome's old town, trendy clubs and absorbing cultural activities attract large numbers of tourists.

Apart from Rome's city centre, its province, which is the largest in the region, also gathers further renowned holiday destinations. The Roman coastline, a 100-km-long stretch of the Tyrrhenian Coast which extends from Civitavecchia to Anzio, is dotted with popular seaside resorts, such as Fregene, Fiumicino and Ostia, the latter being situated a short distance from the archaeological sites of Ostia Antica. Not to be missed is the beach of Capocotta, situated a short distance from Torvaianica, which is part of the Public Natural Reserve of the Roman Coastline.

The province of Rome is also scattered with pilgrimage meccas and interesting cultural sights, ancient villages situated on the top of the volcanic reliefs of the hinterland, the so-called Albani Hills, and plenty of naturalistic itineraries across impressive mountain ranges, charming lakes and the banks of the river Tiber. Not to be missed are the local spa resorts, such as Tivoli and Palestrina, which have been appreciated since the Roman Age.
