Like most territories of the Lombard region, the province of Lodi is characterized by the presence of numerous waterways which mark the watershed between the different provinces and cross the main centres of the surrounding area.

The provincial capital, which overlooks the right banks of the river Adda, gathers enchanting monuments and lush green areas and is provided with plenty of modern accommodation facilities. It makes the ideal base for undertaking exciting excursions across the beauties of the province.

The river Adda is flanked by numerous fortifications and the remains of castles and fortresses dating back to the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries. The Fortresses of Camairago and  Maccastorna and the Castles of Castiglione d’Adda and Fombio are some of the best-preserved defensive bulwarks of the surrounding area and attract large numbers of tourists flocking to the province of Lodi.

These ancient centres situated along the banks of the river Adda are part of the Park of Southern Adda, a protected area which occupies a huge area of the province of Lodi and is characterized by an alluvial soil. It gathers thick woods, marshes and river beaches and is populated by rare species of birds. The lovers of nature will have the opportunity to go for pleasant walks, cycle excursions and horse rides across the park, thus enjoying breathtaking views over enchanting landscapes and impressive natural sceneries.
