Guidebooks Fermo
Despite it being the most recent provincial capital of the Marches, Fermo is one of the most important centres of the region. Fermo's old town, which is dominated by the sumptuous Cathedral of St. Maria Assunta and by plenty of outstanding medieval monuments, gathers fascinating historical and artistic itineraries.Even the small centres of Altidona, Falerone, Monte San Pietrangeli, Montegiorgio, Montelparo, Moresco and Sant’Elpidio a Mare are scattered with precious Roman and medieval monuments, while Monterubbiano, Belmonte Piceno and Grottazzolina gather interesting archaeological sites which cherish precious evidences dating back to the period when the ancient Piceni tribe, who settled here before the VI century B.C, ruled the surrounding territory.
The long coastline of Fermo, which extends from Porto Sant’Elpidio up to Pedaso and includes appreciated seaside resorts, such as the thriving town of Porto San Giorgio, gives tourists the possibility to combine relaxing seaside holidays with interesting cultural itineraries.
The Adriatic Sea marks the eastern boundary of the province, while the small municipalities of Amandola and Montefortino, which are crowned by the high peaks of Mounts Amandola, Castel Manardo, Priora and Sibilla, that are part of Mounts Sibillini, mark the western boundary of the territory.
