The province of Cremona, which extends across a narrow plain, is crossed by some of the longest rivers of Northern Italy. The city was the homeland of great families of artists, such as the Campi Family, who in the sixteenth century conceived a new painting technique in Northern Italy, and the Amati, Guarnieri and  Stradivari families, the most important violin makers in the world.
