Guidebooks Ancona

Ancona, the provincial capital of the Marches, is a thriving port city, as well as an important economic and urban centre.

It rises on the top of a high promontory which falls sheer to the sea; the ancient districts of the city centre still retain utmost fascination.

Ancona's harbour provides excellent connections with Croatia, Greece and Turkey. The city boasts compelling beaches which are distributed along a six-km-long coastline and are approached from the city centre through a monumental staircase.

Heading south of Ancona, tourists will have the possibility to reach the popular Conero Peninsula, a wild stretch of indented coastline dominated by Mount Conero, the latter being a protected natural oasis gathering charming itineraries and footpaths. A short distance from it are the popular caves of Frasassi.

The province of Ancona is also scattered with plenty of artistic, historical and religious itineraries, such as the ones developing across Senigallia and Loreto, two of the most appreciated holiday destinations for those flocking to the province of Ancona.
