Oltremare, theme park Riccione, Funfairs Riviera Romagnola
Oltremare Park in Riccione was opened in June 2004 to let visitors discover our Planet and Sea through an unforgettable journey across time and space which is able to combine fun opportunities with higher educational aims. People who spend their holidays in Riccione can easily reach Oltremare by bus or car, since it is situated a short distance from the tollgate of A14 Motorway.
Attractions
Oltremare covers a surface of 110.000 square metres and celebrates our great environmental heritage; special attention is placed over the flora and fauna which populate the
Adriatic Sea and its coast. Next to Oltremare is the brand new IMAX cinema, which displays amazing 3D and 4D projections showing exotic natural landscapes.
Oltremare is open from April to November and attracts about 1 million visitors every year. The park is able to entertain the whole family with breathtaking dolphin acrobatics, funny farm animals and the absorbing clips projected by the nearby IMAX cinema, which are able to make visitors aware of the problems of environmental heritage preservation.
The journey through time proposed by Oltremare occurs inside a mysterious glass and steel dome where the Cretaceous Period is reproduced: special effects reproduce streams of lava and geysers, as well as a prehistoric forest rich in caves and rocks, dinosaurs' skeletons and nests of prehistoric birds. Tanks and glass cases host rare animals, such as Mississippi alligators, giant cockroaches, Malawi cichlids and planty of unknown plants.
The clip entitled “The earth forgotten by time” celebrates the Darwinian theory of the evolution of the species; it is a 12-minute-long High Definition 3D and 4D clip which deals with the changes the earth and living species underwent from 15 billion to 12 million years ago.
One of the funniest entertainment is the dolphins' lagoon, where eleven Bottlenose dolphins perform evolutions and acrobatics twice a day, at 11.40 and 16.40. Not to be
missed are sea horses, leafy sea dragons, pipefishes and other invertebrates which populate the tank of the hippocampus. Both adults and children will be fascinated by the strange shapes, bright colours and mimicries of these small animals.
The area dedicated to the so-called giants of the Adriatic Sea hosts incredible scale reproductions depicting whales, dolphins, sharks, ocean sunfishes and other large vertebrates.
The area dedicated to our Planet allows visitors to discover the animals which populate the Po Delta through outstanding clips which let them discover the natural habitat of falcons, eagles, owls and thousands of fishes and insects.
A real farm welcomes animals which once lived in the farmyards of the surrounding rural houses. The Mill of the owl reproduces a typical nineteenth-century mill of the area of the Po Delta and hosts numerous species of birds; 11 aviaries host eagle owls, barn owls, snowy owls, a twany eagle, peregrine falcons and Harris hawks. Domesticated by the falconers of the park, these birds of prey streak above the visitors and then nose-dive.
